When I bake apples, I tend to opt for Granny Smith green apples. One of the reason that I know is that it gives a better texture and taste. Some bakers also used Gala apples. With the influx of Fuji apples and the prices are getting cheaper (from China) as compared to the past.
Perhaps, I might explore using Fuji apples one of these days. Here is my Apple Crumble using Granny Smith green apples.
Verdict: Getting better each time.
What you need:
675g apples
80g soft brown sugar
1 tsp of cinnamon coz we prefer it stronger taste
Crumble
225g plain flour
115g butter
50g caster sugar
Methods:
Peel, core and slice apples and place in dish, sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.
Place flour in a bowl and rub butter into flour, stir in sugar
Sprinkle crumble mix evenly over apples.
Bake fan oven 160ºC/electric oven 180ºC for 30 - 40 minutes until lightly golden on top.
Serve with custard or ice-cream
